Depression is often described as a common mental "dis-order" affecting more than 264 million people worldwide. It is characterized by persistent sadness and a lack of interest or pleasure in previously rewarding or enjoyable activities.
The Dictionary defines depression as feelings of despondency and dejection. Self-doubt that creeps in silently and swiftly turns into depression.
In my Holistic/Spiritual terms, depression is explained as “The soul or Innate self” unable to come through and express one’s self in its fullest light, which causes loss of hope or courage to be fully expressed.
In essence, we all have the innate ability to heal ourselves (this is very important to remember). When we experience illnesses or a disease (dis-ease) it is simply a result or symptom for the underlying cause. The underlying cause of such illness or dis-ease can be vast and varying in degrees, yet is often times caused by various forms/stages of trauma, suppressed feelings, the inabilities to be ourselves to fit in with our families/cultures/religions/societies, lack of self-love and acceptance, etc. Whenever we deny a part of ourselves, suppress our thoughts, feelings, or painful past experiences... that built-up energy needs to find its outlet sooner or later and be dealt with. Depending on the extremities of the illness/disease often reflects the extremities of the underlying cause(s) not being dealt with.
We, as humans, often allow the external factors of what we see with our naked eyes or perceptually to play upon the internal beliefs and structures we hold for ourselves. As such, you may say you’ve become who you are by the many external factors which played in your lives. When in truth, life mirrors what you began to project from inward thoughts and beliefs… rooted in perceptions of self-taught beliefs. For no one can truly force their beliefs systems upon you. You must, on some level, whatever the reason(s) be open to accepting them. As you stay rooted in those beliefs, no hopes of change can occur.
It is only when you are truly open and willing to devote your lives every minute of the day to such changes and do your best to hold positivity and hope that such changes can even occur, that you can truly begin to not only heal, but find the everlasting cure.
The most common symptoms which stem from depression are…
