A Reminder of Who We Are

First, it is essential to remember we are spirits/energy of light who came here to have human experiences of which to learn and understand more about ourselves in greater depths and levels which aligns us ever more with the true knowing of The One who created us, through discovering the hidden meanings and truths gained by such life experiences. To learn to balance our innate spirituality with the earthy experiences we came here to fulfill.

Common References Used Today in Need of Clarification from Misconception
While there are many alternative healing solutions that are in fact quite effective and safe to use and too, the ways of which we choose to believe and live our earthly existences; There are a few references which tends to become confused in their meanings and wish to clarify.

What is Spirituality? “The quality of our being of which concerns with the human spirit/soul as opposed to the materialistic or physical things.” It is in essence who we innately are and where we derived from.
What does Holistic mean? “Holistic is characterized by the belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can be explained only by reference of the whole.”

What is Religion? “Particular systems of faith and forms of worship. These systems are conducted within a social group which hold specific beliefs and rules about life after death and our purposes here on earth overseen by a controlling power, God or Gods.”

What is Spiritual Wellness? Essentially, Spiritual Wellness denotes the maintenance of the innate inner peace that resides within each one of us (Our Soul/Higher Consciousness/Energy of Light) and how to maintain that balanced harmony within, regardless of the turmoil and strife that has its place and role amongst us within the earthly experience.

Through spiritual healing, we learn how to regain the balance in demonstrating our innate selves/core truths through individual purposes created safely, peacefully, through graceful means and in essence learning to live a full existence which reflects your core truths and beliefs without prejudice, fear, force or the need to prove.
What is Holistic Wellness? ‘Holistic’ comes from the Greek word holos, meaning ‘whole’. Which considers the whole person (Body, mind, spirit, and emotions) for optimal health and wellness. Holistic Wellness is a safe, non-invasive alternative option for therapy and is a non-religious based practice which has been used effectively for centuries. As such, Holistic Wellness works well with any belief/philosophy/medicinal systems.

The primary goal of such Holistic practices is restoring the natural balance of one’s health and lifestyle, leading to a more sustainable and rewarding quality of life. Practitioners believe, if one part or more of the whole is not working properly, all the other parts will become affected, creating negative imbalances in people’s lives. If left untreated, can increasingly affect their overall health.

The Principles of Treatment…

Integrative Medicine was a term used by “main-streamers” in the 1990’s. It was during this time; more Conventional/Orthodox medical professionals were becoming increasingly aware of the mind-body-soul connection. Because of such progresses made, Spiritual and Holistic treatments were no longer treated with harsh scrutiny or ill-fated labeling as sorcery, quackery or unsafe. Some therapies such as massage therapy, acupuncture, mediation and visualization were among the first to be integrated and established into the medical care program. As a result, this movement created new doors of further growth and recognition for other safe practices and modalities being used today.

Holistic Psychotherapy and Spiritual Counseling is non-invasive and a completely natural treatment which gently and effectively restores and aids to sustain the body’s overall natural balance which induces and encourages self -healing for people of all age groups.
It is important to understand how illnesses, injuries or disease (Dis-ease) occurs. There are various forms/stages of trauma, suppressed feelings, the believed inabilities to be ourselves in order to fit in with our families/cultures/religions/societies, lack of self-love and acceptance, questions of self-worth, etc. Whenever we deny any part of ourselves, suppress our thoughts, feelings, or painful past experiences... that built-up energy needs to find its outlet sooner or later and be dealt with. Depending on the extremities of the illness/disease often reflects the extremities of the underlying cause(s) not being dealt with.

Below are the principles that Spiritual and Holistic practitioners follow:

  • All people have innate healing abilities.
  • You do not need to be of a certain faith or belief system for this modality to work.
* Yet, it is found to host a belief in a form of higher power, goes a long way to aid in such efforts VS. being completely closed off to such awareness’s.
  • Illnesses are created by imbalances of the mind, body, emotion and true connectivity with our innate spirit/soul.
  • Treatment involves finding and healing the root cause(s) of the condition(s). These treatments are not about just alleviating the symptoms, as some modern/Western medicines tend to focus on.
  • The patient overcomes being defined by the dis-ease and regains a sense of self… a truer sense of self.
  • These alternative approaches to treatment require the patient’s willingness to participate in the cure, as there are no “magical” drugs, cures nor is the sole responsibility of the practitioner. Rather it is the willingness and efforts made of the patient that determines the outcome.

Types of Treatments Available…

Both Spiritual and Holistic Wellness is a lifestyle choice. These approaches go beyond the connections of the mind and body. Overall "wholeness" is what equates balance and overall well-being.

When a patient embraces the desire to heal and find wholeness within themselves and their life experiences played out, they begin to understand the importance of…
  • Tending to the needs of one’s self and living a lifestyle which supports the needs of the whole self.
  • Relationships they hold with others (Family, Friends, Co-workers).
  • The necessity of all life experiences… even the tumultuous.
  • Responsibilities in caring for the planet, our environments, and the animals which live within such environments; as we all play an equal and important role.
  • The need of compassion for all creation. Having true acceptance and tolerance for all of life’s diversities without fears, labeling, judgements and expectations.

How to Choose Which Is Right for You….

People have varied reasons and perhaps even more than one reason for choosing either Spiritual or Holistic alternative treatments, which can be safely used alongside Conventional/Orthodox modalities (As long as the communication remains open about the types of prescriptions, treatments and remedies being used or taken among each professional chosen, as natural herbs can sometimes negatively interact with prescription drugs and create side effects or cancel out the effects desired for proper treatment.) For example, grapefruit/grapefruit juice may negatively impact/cancel out important medications needed for treatments. Yet, it does not make the grapefruit “bad”, as it offers many health benefits. Thus, it is no different with natural/organic herbs or uses of essential oils.

*** The most important thing to remember when working with any alternative modality, NEVER change the dosage of your prescriptions used nor stop taking your prescribed medications without first consulting with your doctor.

Keep in mind, not all Spiritual/Holistic practitioners are equal, each has his or her own specialty or expertise to offer. It will benefit you to shop around for a good fit (Perhaps, you may find more than one practitioner who will meet the varied needs of your interests). Choosing to go to either a Spiritual or Holistic healer/practitioner is no different from choosing a medical professional. You decide.

Some of the reasons for using Spiritual or Holistic/combined Complementary therapies include:

  • Achieving and maintaining wholeness and balanced long-term health goals.
  • Effectiveness in tools used to perform on everyday tasks at home, work or school.
  • Dissatisfaction in limited success rates found for some conventional practices.
  • Conflicts in belief systems when working with some conventional/religious-based practices.
  • Spiritual/Holistic therapies are far less invasive and found to be more cost-effective than conventional therapy/medicinal treatments. Many have found therapy sessions to be cut in half the time of conventional therapy sessions.
  • Awakening the ability to create a stable life of your own.
  • Creating awareness how each person plays an important role in maintaining/actively contributing to their own health and well-being.
  • Desire to receive treatments that focuses on the whole person and not just the symptoms.
  • Proof is in the pudding… evidence is found in the benefits and safety some complementary medicines and therapies may provide.
  • Security in knowing some Conventional/Orthodox healthcare professionals actively endorse Spiritual/ Holistic care and practices.

*** More studies have been conducted to prove most frequent users of complementary therapies include well educated men and women, high-income to middle-class earners and people with chronic conditions. Complementary therapies and medicines have been chosen due to cultural traditions and beliefs.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when choosing a Spiritual/Holistic provider:
  • Above All, Don't Settle for Just Anyone. As with any profession/practitioner, there are those who are good in their field and those who are not as equally equipped. Before choosing a Spiritual/Holistic modality, seek recommendations from someone you trust, or credible sources for recommendations, in other words, do your homework…
  • Do your homework. It is very important to take your time in finding out as much as you can about that person’s experience(s). Take into consideration their approach to treatment philosophies. Do they relate, respect and/or mirror your similar views or belief systems? How do you feel?...
  • Don't be afraid to ask the awkward or uncomfortable questions as to a person's abilities. After all, this is your health and wellbeing. You want to make sure you feel safe and comfortable with those you wish to work with.
  • How do you feel? How comfortable were you with the Spiritual/Holistic experience? Does he or she make you feel at ease with them and how they conduct their practice?  It is very important to remember, any Spiritual/Holistic therapy/medicinal services require a team effort. Therefore, it is highly important you feel respected and comfortable. To ensure they allow you to feel you can trust and work with them. It’s all about the quality time….
  • It’s all about the quality time. It is important to choose a practitioner who is willing to make the quality time with you so that he/she can gain a full understanding of your needs and for you to fully understand what this experience with them will entail. An amount of trust between both the practitioner and patient needs to be present to ensure healing is able to take its fullest effect. For these reasons, it is important for you to have the right questions being asked and feel safe and comfortable with the answers given.
  • Are the right questions being asked and appropriately answered? Remember in Spiritual/Holistic therapies/medicinal modalities, it is equally important that the practitioner knows as much about you as it would be with any other medicinal services available. This is to ensure your practitioner is able to assist you as a whole person and not simply focusing on the symptoms alone. It is good to be open and prepared to answer questions regarding your dietary intake, exercise regimen, and sleep habits (They may ask about your prescriptions to see if any may potentially alter your appetite, abilities to exercise or in getting proper rest.) They may ask questions as to how you feel emotionally (Which may once again include any prescription medications to rule out any potential possibilities of your medications creating the moods you are experiencing or being enhanced). They may wish to ask about your religious/non-religious beliefs, philosophies and practices (This is to ensure what they offer you will coincide with your beliefs and allow you to feel comfortable in your sessions. They may dig deeper into your close relationships, work relationships, home life and more to ensure all is balanced and supporting you in the lifestyle you desire to have for self. By asking such questions, your practitioner may be able to offer suggestions/tools as to how to approach/tweak your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc. to assist you in creating a more enriched and fulfilled experience in any of these areas of your life. You may be surprised to learn how one aspect of your life may drastically affect all other areas of your life as well. This is why it is so important to be complete and go as deeply as possible, to ensure your stability in health and overall well-being is being met. This will help you and your practitioner choose what treatment options are best for your highest good…
  • Treatment options. When determining an option of treatment, does this wellness plan go beyond the pills? As discussed above, make sure the practitioner examines all lifestyle factors, along with medical factors that could be contributing to your illness. It is equally important to find a spiritual/holistic practitioner who is counseled to assist you in finding healthier and safer alternative solution for a stable and perhaps a potentially faster recovery time.
